Ponce studies feasibility of 2006 Pan American Cup

PONCE, Puerto Rico, March 30, 2005.- The Municipality of Ponce is studying the possibility to host the 2006 Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup, reported today The Associated Press.

 

During a press conference called on Tuesday, Mr. Francisco Zayas the Major of Ponce, said they are “working with this volleyball tournament because we are facing the problem of several sport events near the date of the Pan Am Cup.

 

” Ponce will host the 2006 Iberoamerican Track and Field Games on May of 2006 besides being host as usual of the Puerto Rico Track and Field University Games on April. The Pan Am Cup is projected to be played on June.

 

Carlos Beltran, President of the Puerto Rican Volleyball Federation, presented to Zayas de possibility to host the Pan American Cup and the Major thinks that is feasible to have it in the city because the cost of the event is between $50,000 to $60,000 dollars. “There is a chance we can hold this volleyball event,” said Major Zayas.
