Puerto Rico, November 23,2004,-Finally the
Women Superior League will have talent from
the Nacional Team of the Dominican Republic
alter the Bayamon Cowgirls agreed to sign
the middle-blocker of that side Annerys
Vargas during the weekend.
Vargas also can play as opposite and as
explained Rafael “Epique” Olazagasti, the
Cowgirls coach, she could play each one of
those positions in the team. The coach
scouted the player during the workouts of
the Quisqueya selection last week.
“I knew about her talents and as soon as
Epique called me I liked the idea and I
consider that our team will benefit from the
talent of Annerys,” explained Martin Rosado,
general manager of the Cowgirls.
Rosado traveled to Santo Domingo and after a
cordial meeting with the President of the
Women Program of Dominican Republic,
Lic. Cristóbal Marte Hoffiz
he
finalized the agreement and documents for
the services transfer of Vargas, who will
have her first experience in the Superior
League.
Vargas was the Dominican with the best
performance in this year competitions. The
middle blocker was the sixth best in
services and placed eighth in the Olympic
Games in Athens, Greece. She also had a
successful participation in the 2004 World
Grand Prix.
“I hope Annerys can come to the island in
January and for that matter we have started
all the paper work for the visa. Her
participation creates a lot of enthusiasm
around the Dominican community based in
Bayamon,” said Rosado about the slender
player with experience in 124 international
matches.
With the signing of Annerys, the Bayamon
team completed its cuota of two imported
players. In October they reached an
agreement with Barb Bellini, a stellar
attacke of Canada National Team.
The Cowgirls will play their matches of the
regular season in the Ruben Rodriguez
Coliseum, while the Pepin Cestero Court is
being revamped.
Currently other Dominican players, it was
known, are available to play in the island.
They are opposites Cosiris Rodriguez and
Sofia Heredia, libero Alexandra Caso and
setter Juana Gonzalez. |
