Pairs from Guadeloupe and Barbados winners at Antigua Beach Bash


CASTAWAYS BEACH, Antigua, November 5, 2005.- .- Guadeloupean pair of Philippe Pignol and Robin Darchicourt won the Antigua Beach Bash in the men’s division while Lauren Whitehall and Sharon Bovell of Barbados took the title in the women’s side.

The event was part of the Sizzlin Sand Beach Volleyball Caribbean Series whose final competition is scheduled for this weekend in Barbados.

Pignol and Darchicourt prevailed over Andrew Culpepper and Elwyn Oxley of Barbados in a thrilling match by score of 21-23, 21-15, 15-13 while the duo of Whitehall and Bovell defeated Guadeloupeans Beatrice Aucan and Veronique Berthelot by 21-16, 24-22.

Nineteen teams representing five countries took part in the event hosted by Leisure Entertainment and the Antigua and Barbuda Volleyball Association. The participating countries were Barbados, Trinidad & Tobago, Guadeloupe, Bahamas and the hosts Antigua and Barbuda.

Blessed with brilliant sunshine and the occasional intermittent showers the pool and qualification days produced also superb exchanges as the standard of the competition has risen significantly over last year’s event.
