Cuban Jorge Garbey achieved the
highest grades during the
International Course for Coaches
Level III dictated at the FIVB
Regional Development Center in the
Dominican Republic located in Centro
Olímpico Juan Pablo Duarte of Santo
Domingo.
Puerto Ricans David Quinones and
Juan Cartagena were tied as the
second most outstanding participants
in the course directed by Swiss
professor Max Meier with the
assistance of professors Carlos Diaz
Bancalari of Argentina and Gilberto
Herrera of Cuba. A total of 35
coaches of 45 participants, from 19
countries approved the final exams
of the course that covered 112
hours.
Among the coaches that approved were
Mohammed Shaafee of Maldivia, Michio
Fujiwara of Japan, Sarath Da Dilva
of Sri Lanka, Luger Niles of
Barbados, Samuel Cibrian of Mexico,
Harold Canaval of Colombia and Jorge
Nicolas of Bonaire. Also Dominicans
Julio Frias, Juan Alberto Capellan,
Altagracia Jimenez, Manuel de Regla
Lara, Eduardo Jonas Tayson, Jose
Manuel Paniagua, Ramon De Leon,
Vicente Paniagua, Victor Sepulveda,
Wilson Sanchez y Cristian Cruz.
The president of the Dominican
Olympic Comité, Mr. Luis Mejia
Oviedo, pronounced the closing
speech during the final ceremony.
Mr. Carlos Beltrán, vice president
of Norceca and president of the
Puerto Rican Volleyball Federation,
represented the Norceca
Confederation.
Also the three professors lecturing
the course had a few words,
emphasizing about the good
environment for the course available
at the center, and Jorge Garbey
thanked on behalf of all the
participating students. Mr. Nelson
Ramirez closed the ceremony as
Director of the Regional Volleyball
Development Center.
