SANTO
DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, October
18, 2005.- Sixteen candidates for
the Board of Administration of the
North, Central American and
Caribbean Confederation (NORCECA)
have been submitted by their
respective National Federations.
The elections for a new governing
body of the NORCECA will take place
during the XVIII Congress Dr. Rubén
Acosta Hernández to be held at Punta
Cana Beach Resort on October 21-23.
The ten most voted candidates will
win their election to the Board of
13 members. Two members have been
already selected as presidents of
zone association besides the
president of the institution who is
chosen in a separate election.
The presidents of zones associations
are Mr. Edgar Alvarado for Central
America (AFECAVOL) and Mr. Mushtaque
Mohammed for the Caribbean islands (CAZOVA).
The proposed candidates are in the
alphabetical order of their National
Federations are the following:
Gerald Rosina (AHO), Wilbur Harrigan
(ANT), John Griffith (BAR), Alan
Ahac (CAN), William Corrales (CRC),
Angel Iglesias (CUB), Rupert
Sorhaindo (DCA), Nelson Ramirez
(DOM), Norman Quijano (ESA), Martha
Centeno de Sajche (GUA), Jacques
Joachim (HAI), Alejandro Salinas
(MEX), Bertha Cuadra (NIC), Carlos
Beltran (PUR), Glenn Quinlan (SKI)
and Douglas Beal (USA).
It is mandatory that at least two
women must be part of the Board of
Administration and the rule assures
the election of Cuadra and Centeno,
the only women in the proposed list.
Also is established a quota members
for the different regions. The
Central American zone must have
three representatives, the
Caribbean will have four members and
the Central Zone (USA, Canada,
Mexico, Cuba, Dominican Republic and
Puerto Rico) must have six
representatives.
