Constructions for Volleyball and Beach Volleyball are on time for
Games in Colombia
SANTO
DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, December 6, 2005.- The volleyball
tournament of the XX Central American and Caribbean Games will be
played in a brand new pavilion currently under construction in Cartagena de Indias Colombia. Mr. Armando Segovia Ortiz, technical
director of the event and Luis Elpidio Cumba, technical director of
the Central American and Caribbean Sports Organization, informed of
the good news during a meeting here with Nelson Ramirez, technical
delegate of Norceca for the competition and Roosevelt Comarazamy,
press officer of the volleyball confederation.
The facility, with
capacity for around 4,000 spectators should be ready for test events
on May-June of next year and will have a warm-up court and rooms for
lockers, press conferences, doping control, working press, VIP
lounge and others. The Games will be held on July 15-30.
The
organizers also informed that two practice courts will be available
for the sixteen participating teams –eight men and eight women. The
main pavilion is located at a 25 minutes distance from the athlete’s
village. The Beach Volleyball Tournament will be held at Playa de La Boquilla, the most popular beach of Cartagena de Indias
and separated from the village by only 10 minutes. Two competition
courts will be prepared as also two for warm-up.
The
organizing committee is planning to have temporary facilities for
the media, medical doctors, VIP and players. Twelve pairs on each
gender will take part in the competition.
