Brazilian Silva wins MVP honors at Pan Am Cup
GATINEAU, Canada, June 18, 2011 – Brazil’s Paulo Silva, who
scored 23 points to lead his side to the victory at the gold
medal match, was selected as the Most Valuable Player of the
Men’s Volleyball Pan American Cup on Saturday.
Silva was one of four Brazilians who received individual awards
during the closing ceremony.

Brazil wins epic battle over the U.S. for gold
GATINEAU, Canada, June 18, 2011 - Brazil overcame a serious
injury to star player Raphael Oliveira in the third set to
defeat the United States 25-23, 21-25, 25-17, 28-26 on Saturday
to win the gold medal at the Pan Am Cup men’s volleyball
tournament. Oliveira, Brazil’s powerful server, who had
scored 12 points.

Canada wins the bronze medal at Pan Am Cup
GATINEAU, Canada, June 18, 2011 – Canada returned to the medal
podium at the Pan Am Cup men’s volleyball tournament on Saturday
with a decisive 25-14, 25-20, 25-21 victory over a young but
very talented squad from Puerto Rico.

Venezuela withdraws from fifth place match against Mexico
GATINEAU, Canada, June 18, 2011 – The Venezuela-Mexico match was
not played on Saturday at the Pan Am Cup men’s volleyball
tournament after the Venezuelans withdrew due to a player
shortage.
Five Venezuelan players returned home before the match.

Argentina finishes seventh at Pan Am Cup
GATINEAU, Canada, June 18, 2011 - Ivan Castellani scored 17
points to lead Argentina to a 25-21, 25-21, 22-25, 25-15 victory
over the Dominican Republic on Saturday to finish seventh at the
Pan Am Cup men’s volleyball tournament.
It was a very valuable experience for the Argentineans, who were
fielding their national junior.

wasn’t enough against powerhouse Brazil in a 25-20, 29-27, 25-16
loss on Friday in a semifinal match at the Pan Am Cup men’s
volleyball tournament.
The Brazilians head to the championship final against the USA

Bahamas places ninth with historic win
GATINEAU, Canada, June 17, 2011 - The Bahamas earned its first
ever victory at the Pan Am Cup men’s volleyball tournament on
Friday defeating Panama 21-25, 25-16, 25-22, 25-18 in the ninth
place match.
It was the Bahamas’ first appearance in the six-year history of
the tournament.

Dominicans survives scare from Bahamas
GATINEAU, Canada, June 16, 2011 - The Bahamas nearly pulled a
major upset but finally fell to the Dominican Republic in five

Americans beat Argentina and lock-up semifinal berth

The US finishes first in group C with a 3-0 record and get a bye
