Summary of NORCECA Teams in the Netherlands

THE HAGUE, the Netherlands, July 6, 2015 – NORCECA teams from United States, Canada, Cuba, Mexico, El Salvador, Puerto Rico, Guatemala and Costa Rica took part in the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships that concluded on Sunday. The USA duo of Nick Lucena and Theodore Brunner finished in fourth place of the men’s division after losing the bronze medal match to Brazilians Pedro Solberg and Evandro Goncalves 2-0 (22-20, 21-13) on Sunday. Cubans Nivaldo Díaz and Sergio González, Mexicans Juan Virgen and Lombardo Ontiveros and Canadians Josh Binstock and Sam Schachter were eliminated in the Round of 16, while Jacob Gibb and Casey Patterson of United States reached the quarterfinals. In the women’s segment, the teams of Lauren Fendrick and Brooke Sweat of United States. More  Español

Brazilians dominate Beach Volleyball Championships

THE HAGUE, the Netherlands, July 6, 2015 – The Hague turned orange on Sunday evening for Reinder Nummerdor and Christian Varenhorst, but it was the green and gold of Brazil that eventually came out on top in the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championship men’s final as Alison Cerutti and Bruno Oscar Schmidt sealed a thrilling 12-21, 21-14, 22-20 win over the home heroes. It was the first time the two teams had met, and Alison/Bruno had to overcome some vocal home support to claim Alison’s second and Bruno’s maiden title. Brazilian Barbara Seixas and Agatha Bednarczuk carved their name into FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championship folklore after sealing the 2015 title with a 21-18, 21-19 of fellow compatriots Taiana Lima and Fernanda Alves. Puerto Rico tops Pool K despite loss to Bulgaria

CAROLINA, Puerto Rico, July 5, 2015 - Bulgaria hold out a Puerto Rico thrilling come back in a five setter, to win 3-2 (19-25, 25-27, 25-20, 25-18, 14-16) over the hosting team at the World Grand Prix in pool K.  Bulgaria finished the weekend as a third team of the pool K with 3 points, while Puerto Rico remained a leader with 7 points despite the loss. The top scorers of the winning team were Eva Yaneva with 22 and Yuliya Stoyanova with 20, while Puerto Ricans were led by Karina Ocasio, who was the best scorer of the match with 26 points. Stephanie Enright and Aurea Cruz had 22 and 20 points, respectively, in the losing effort. Poland finished the battles in Pool K of FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix 2015 Group 2 in Puerto Rico with a victory over  Canada. More  Español

USA with 3-0 record after first weekend of WGP

ANKARA, Turkey, July 5, 2015 - Krista Vansant had a haul of 22 points as the USA powered past Belgium 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-18) who were no match for the in-form American side in Ankara.  Belgium remained in third place in Preliminary Pool C after being overwhelmed by the Americans who improved to a 3-0 win-loss mark. USA tops Pool B of World League

KRAKOW, Poland, July 4, 2015 - USA secured the leader position in pool B, winning 3-1 (25-20, 25-21, 22-25, 25-23) over Poland in their last encounter in the 2015 World League Intercontinental Round. Both teams are through to the Final Six in Rio in earlier stages of the tournament and were fighting today for the top spot in their pool. Thomas Jaeschke led USA with 19 points and Rafal Buszek had 18 points for Poland. More  Español

Puerto Rico undefeated in Pool K at home
CAROLINA, Puerto Rico, July 4, 2015 - Puerto Rico beat Poland 3-1 (25-19, 21-25, 25-19, 25-18) in Group 2 of the 2015 FIVB World Grand Prix to sit atop of Pool K as the only undefeated team in the Pool. With the support of more than 2,500 local fans, Puerto Rico controlled the fundamentals of the game and were resilient in recovering after Poland won the second set 25-21 to level the match at 1-1. Puerto Rico’s Karina Ocasio scored a game-high 24 points, while Stephanie Enright contributed 17 points. More  Español

USA improves to 2-0 at World Grand Prix

ANKARA, Turkey, July 4, 2015 - USA won their second game in the World Grand Prix Pool C, beating hosts Turkey 3-1 (25-20, 17-25, 25-16, 25-21) on Saturday. Karsta Lowe was the best scorer for USA team with 23 points, while teammate Kelsey Robinson contributed 13 in the victory. Turkey’s Neriman Ozsoy had 25 points in the losing cause.  More  Español

Lucena/Brunner lost in semifinals

THE HAGUE, the Netherlands, July 4, 2015 – Brazil’s Alison Cerutti will compete in his third FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships final after he and Bruno Schmidt defeated USA’s Theodore Brunner/Nick Lucena 21-17, 21-15 in the semifinals in The Hague on Saturday. It was a simple win for the Brazilians and they will now face home heroes Reinder Nummerdor/Christian Varenhorst in the finals on Sunday in their first gold medal. More  Español

Puerto Rico Controls Canada in Pool K of WGP

CAROLINA, Puerto Rico, July 3, 2015 – Puerto Rico recorded a home victory with a 3-1 (25-18, 25-10, 24-26, 25-14) win over Canada in Pool K of FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix on Friday.  Puerto Rico outscored Canada in attack 56-33 and serve 6-0, but Canada showed better net defense with a 12-6 margin in blocks.  Sheila Ocasio and Aurea Cruz led Puerto Rico. USA opens with victory, Dominicans lost to China

ANKARA, Turkey, July 3, 2015 – No. 1 world-ranked USA Women’s Team opened their campaign at the 2015 FIVB World Grand Prix with a 3-1 (25-27, 25-21, 25-22, 25-23) victory over Italy at Bakent Volleyball Hall in Ankara on Friday. The winners trailed 13-14 in blocks and held a 6-3 advantage in serving aces. Kelsey Robinson led four USA players with double figures in the scores with 16 points.
