Ricardo Calvo named MVP of NORCECA U 21

San Salvador, El Salvador, August 3, 2014– Ricardo Calvo of Cuba was named the Most Valuable Player of the NORCECA Men’s U21 Continental Championship. Calvo received the award to Best Setter. He was the leader of Cuba for won the gold medal. Alongside Calvo other Cubans recognized included in the All-Star Team were the Best Spiker, Osmany Uriarte, Luis Soza was the second Best Blocker, and Abrahan Alfonso the Best Server. The Best Scorer and Best Opposite of the tournament was Samuel Valdez of El Salvador,  and his teammate José Mejía, Best Blocker 1. Brandon Koppers, of Canada, was the Best Blocker 2. Juan Napky, of Honduras, was the Best Defense, Best Receiver and Best Libero. More  Español

Cuba wins gold medal of NORCECA U21

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, August 3, 2014 – Cuba won its fifth crown in the history of the NORCECA Men’s U21 Continental Championship with a 29-27, 25-21, 25-21 victory over Canada at Palacio de los Deportes of San Salvador on Sunday night. Both finalists were secured of tickets to next year’s FIVB World Championship to take place in Mexico. Cuba claimed the title in 2000 and the won three consecutive editions of the biennial tournament in 2004, 2006 and 2008. The United States team, which finished third this time, had won the last two competitions. Osmany Uriarte and Abrahan Alfonso were the top offensive weapons of Cuba producing 20 and 15 points, respectively. More  Español

United States claim Bronze Medal against Puerto Rico

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, August 3, 2014 – United States defeated Puerto Rico 3-0 ( 26-24, 25-19, 27-25) in the match for the bronze medal of the NORCECA Men’s U21 Continental Championship. United States and Puerto Rico engaged in a great battle with the difference the best blocking of the Americans who led 13-6 and also in kills 34-30. Puerto Rico topped in aces 5-2. The winners also scored 29 points on Puerto Rico’s errors while committing 27. Puerto Rico had the opportunity to win the first set, but the United States’ blocking was strong with Kevin Rakestraw and Benjamin Plaisted at the net. Storm Faagata-Tufuga led Estados Unidos in scoring with 13 points, 9 on kills and 4 blocks. El Salvador finishes fifth with victory over Barbados

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, August 3, 2014 - El Salvador finished the NORCECA Boys’ Under-21 Continental Championship in fifth place with a 25-21, 21-25, 25-18, 25-22 win over Barbados on Sunday at Palacios de los Deportes. El Salvador had lost to Barbados in the pool play stage, but this time things went better for the hosts. El Salvador took advantage of Barbados's amount of mistakes as they scored 42 points on Barbados errors while committing 18. El Salvador dominated the blocks (8-5) and Barbados led in kills 58-44 and aces 5-2. El Salvador’s Samuel Valdez led all scorers with 28 points on 24 attacks and three blocks. Cuba to play Canada for gold, qualify to WCH

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, August 2, 2014 - Cuba advanced to the NORCECA’s U21 Continental Championship Final and qualified to the 2015 FIVB World Championship age group with a 25-19, 25-18, 25-19 win over Puerto Rico at Palacio de los Deportes on Saturday. Cuba will play in Sunday’s gold medal match at 7 p.m. against Canada. Puerto Rico will face United States for bronze medal at 3 p.m.  El Salvador will play for fifth place against Barbados. Mexico won 3-0 over Honduras for the seventh place. Cuba’s block was superior 9-2, led in kills 35-26 and both teams had same number of aces (4-4). Mexico finishes in seventh place

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, August 2, 2014 – Mexico defeated Honduras in straight sets 25-17, 25-15, 25-20 in the match for seventh place of the NORCECA Men’s U21 Continental Championship being played at Palacio de los Deportes of San Salvador. It was an overwhelming victory for the Mexicans who outscored their opponents in all the skills. They held a big margin in attacks 44-23 and also led in blocks 7-4 and service winners 3-0. They gave away 25 points with unforced errors while Honduras totaled 21. Alan Martinez and Enrique Ugalde were the leaders of the winning attack with 11 points apiece. Canada advance to gold medal match, qualify to WCH

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, August 2, 2014 – Canada advanced to the gold medal match of the NORCECA U21 Continental Championship following a well fought five-set victory (23-25, 25-14, 20-25, 25-22, 15-9) over United States on Saturday. The victory earned Canada a spot in next year’s FIVB U21 World Championship to take place in Mexico. Canada’s Brandon Koopers led the scorers of his side with 20 points while Lucas Coleman added 14 points. Sander Brenden scored a match-high 21 points for United States and Storm Faagata-Tufuga had 13. The Americans led in kills 56-47 but gave away 41 points via unforced errors to 31 by the Canadians. The winners held a wide advantage in blocks 15-6 and had a slight 5-2 margin in aces.  More  Español

Puerto Rico to play Cuba in U21 semifinals

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, August 1, 2014 – Puerto Rico advanced to the semifinals of the NORCECA Men’s U21 Continental Championship with a lopsided victory over Barbados 25-13, 25-18, 25-12 on Friday at Palacio de los Deportes in El Salvador. In the Final Four round, the Puerto Ricans will face Cuba in a battle between Caribbean teams while United States will play Canada in a classic match featuring teams from North America. The Puerto Ricans dominated from start to finish and held a wide margin in kills (35-20), blocks (11-5) and service winners (6-0). They also made fewer unforced errors (18-23) than their opponents. Roberto Perez topped Puerto Rico with 15 points, including 4 blocks and two aces, while Jon Rivera added 11.  More  Español

United States go to semifinals with win over El Salvador

San Salvador, El Salvador, August 1, 2014 – United States qualified for semifinals of the NORCECA Boys’ U-21 Continental Championship on Thursday with a win 3-0 over El Salvador (25-15, 25-21, 25-18). United States will play in Saturday’s semifinal against Canada. El Salvador will play in Sunday´s match for fifth place against the loser between Puerto Rico and Barbados. United State led El Salvador in kills (39-17), block 10-3 and aces (6-1). United States´s Opposite player Benjamin Plaisted led scorers with 15 points and Storm Faagata-Tufuga scored 11. Honduras won Saint Lucia and will play for seven place

San Salvador, El Salvador. August 1, 2014- Honduras beat St. Lucia 3-0 (25-10, 25-10, 25-19) for their first win at the Men’s U-21 NORCECA Continental Championship at “Palacios de los Deportes”.  The victory earned Honduras the right to play México on Saturday for seventh place. St. Lucia finished the continental championship in ninth place with 0-3 win-loss record. The Central Americans led 23-16 in kills, 8-4 in blocks and in service points 4-2. Honduras scored 40 points on Saint Lucia’s errors while committing 17. William Thompson with 12 point was the best scorer of Honduras. Tevin St. Jean led St. Lucia with six points.

El Salvador to Quarterfinals after win over Honduras 

San Salvador, El Salvador, July 31, 2014 – El Salvador won 3-1 a hard-fought battle against Honduras, 22-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-19 on Thursday to advance to the quarterfinals of the NORCECA Boys’ U 21 Continental Championship at the “Palacio de los Deportes". El Salvador (1-1) was second in the Pool A and will play against United States, who finished second Pool C, while Puerto Rico will face Barbados at quarterfinals. Barbados finished 2-0 at Pool A and Puerto Rico (1-1) was second in Pool B. The blocking was the key for El Salvador, with Samuel Valdez as their best scorer with 29 points on 22 kills, two aces and five blocks. United States move to quarterfinals at U21 event

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, July 31, 2014 – United States defeated Mexico 3-1 (25-18, 25-21, 17-25, 25-11) to capture second place in Pool C and a berth in the quarterfinals of the NORCECA U21 Men’s Continental Championship at Palacio de los Deportes on Thursday. Storm Faagata-Tufuga and Brenden Sander registered 20 and 15 points, respectively, to lead the offensive charts of the winners. George Pinnerar contributed 9 points in the victory. Alan Martinez and Ivan Molano were the best Mexican scorers with 13 and 10 points, respectively. The Americans dominated their opponents in all the offensive categories and made 30 unforced errors to 33 by the losers. Canada to semifinals with five-set win over Puerto Rico 

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, July 31, 2014 - Canada overcame Puerto Rico in five-set battle 25-23, 25-27, 25-23, 23-25​​, 15-10 to claim first place in Group B at the NORCECA Boys’ U21 Continental Championship and the second ticket to the semifinals phase. Despite the great effort of the opposite Roberto Perez, who had 34 points, Puerto Rico could not close the game in part due to the actions of the "Canadian Towers" Brandon Koppers (2:00 meters), Captain Ryan Ninkifor (1.99 cm) and Blake Scheerhoom (2.02 cm). Koppers led Canada with 18 points, Lucas Coleman was next with 14, Scheerhoorn added 13 and Ninkifor chipped in with 11 points.  Canada held the advantage in blocks 12-9 and serves 3-2 while both teams had the same number of spikes with 61.  More  Español

Cuba dominates Nicaragua

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, July 31, 2014 – Led by opposite Osniel Rendon, Cuba beat 3-0 Nicaragua 25-6, 25-11, 25-10 to secure first place in Pool C at NORCECA Men’s U21 Continental Championship. Rendon scored 15 points leading Cuba’s offense that included 34 spikes, eight blocks and eight aces. Nicaragua couldn’t play against the tall and talented Cuba. Cuba subdues United States in NORCECA U21

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, July 30, 2014 – Cuba displayed overall talent in a dominant performance against United States in the second day of actions in Pool C at the NORCECA U21 Continental Championship taking place at Palacio de los Deportes of San Salvador. Cuba won by scores of 25-13, 25-16, 25-18 to improve their win-loss record to 2-0 while the United States evened their mark at 1-1. The Cubans, who one night earlier had dispatched Mexico in four sets, were even better on Wednesday against the Americans. They held big advantages in all the scoring categories. Barbados tops Pool A

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, July 30, 2014 – Barbados defeated 3-1 Honduras (22-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-19) for its second victory and the top place in Pool C of the NORCECA U21 Men’s Continental Championship at “Palacio de los Deportes”. Barbados completed the preliminary phase of the competitions with a 2-0 win-loss record and now awaits the results of Thursday to know who will be the next opponent in semifinals or quarterfinals. Ammuniki Wood, captain of Barbados led his team with 18 point, 11 spikes and six blocks, while Jabarry Goodridge added 17 point, 15 with attacks. More  Español

Canada opens with demolition of St. Lucia

Cuba battles to beat Mexico

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, Juy 29, 2014 - Cuba beat 3-1 Mexico (25-17, 25-13, 23-25, 25-16) in a hard battle in the Pool C NORCECA U21 Men’s Continental Championship during the first day of competition at “Palacio de los Deportes”. Abraham Alfonso and Osmany Uriarte led all scorers each with 18 points for Cuba while Mexico’s Enrique Ugalde charted ten points. Cuba led in attacks 53-26, blocks 8-4 and aces 8-3. Puerto Rico stomps Saint Lucia

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, July 29, 2014 - Puerto Rico crushed Saint Lucia, 25-10, 25-15, 25-10 on Tuesday to open Pool B action in the 2014 NORCECA Men’s U21 Continental Championship. Four Puerto Rican players -Roberto Pérez, Jon Rivera, Reyli Calderón and Jassiel Cruz- all finished with 6 points. Anfernee Ferdinand and Keiran President also had six points for Saint Lucia. Puerto Rico also led in kills (36-18) and aces (8-1) and scored 27 points on Saint Lucia’s errors while committing 18. United States cruise past Nicaragua 

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, July 29, 2014 - The United States defeated Nicaragua 25-12, 25-13, 25-20 on Tuesday in a Pool C match to start the NORCECA Men’s U21 Continental Championship at the “Palacio de los Deportes”. Team USA (1-0) will face Cuba on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. while Nicaragua (0-1) will play Mexico at 2 p.m. United States also led kills 38-19 and blocks (5-1). Nicaragua scored on 24 errors while committing 27. U.S. outside hitter Brenden Sander led all scorers with nine points, six with spikes and two aces while middle blocker Jeffrey Jendryk II added eight points with both them playing only in two sets. Teams aiming to U21 World Championship

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, July 28, 2014 – The NORCECA U21 Men’s Continental Championship features the best teams of the region full of players battling in a great show in their quest for two places available to the 2015 FIVB World Championship. The coaches of the ten teams taking part in the tournament agree that the competition will be a tough one, with good players who have the experience of World Championship and Pan American tournaments. Teams are divided into three pools. U21 NORCECA Men’s Championship in El Salvador

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, July 27, 2014 - The Committee Control for the NORCECA Men’s U21 Continental Championship Volleyball approved the official venue of the tournament with 10 teams. The competition venue is the Palacio de los Deportes, with a seating capacity of 8,000 spectators, where the actions start on Tuesday. In addition, two training courts were prepared at the headquarters of the Volleyball Federation of El Salvador (Fesavol). Ariel Saenz, president of the Cuban Volleyball Federation and the Competition Manager for the U21 Continental, said: "We know the limitations, and organizing events of high level is difficult.
