Cuba is of NORCECA U-19 champion vs. hardest rival

HAVANA, Cuba, June 29, 2016 – Host squad defeated United States 3-2 (22-25, 25-21, 25-19, 23-25, 15-11), in the most exciting and closest clash to crown champion of the NORCECA Boys U-19 Volleyball Championship which was closed at the Sports City Coliseum. Both teams, who already had the tickets to the World Championship, 2017, starred a fierce duel which lasted little more than two hours through which excelled. More  Español

Mexico defeats Nicaragua to deserve bronze medal

HAVANA, Cuba, June 29, 2016 – Mexico overpowered Nicaragua 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-14) to deserve the bronze medal of the NORCECA Boys U-19 Championship held at the Sports City Coliseum. The winners finished the event with record of 4 victories and 2 losses after dominating in their last appearance in the court in all the match performance items: attack (29-18), block (13-1) and service (4-2); not in unforced errors I which both teams had similar figures (28-29). Jamaica annuls Dominican Republic for fifth place

HAVANA, Cuba, June 29, 2016 – Jamaican team defeated Dominican Republic 3-1 (12-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-17) to reach the fifth berth of the NORCECA Boys U-19 Volleyball Championship which, since June 24th, has been held at the Sports City Coliseum. In spite of the effort made by the strong outside hitter, Bayron Valdéz, who scored 31 and was trying to be the event best scorer, the Dominicans looked differently and did not play properly after winning relatively easy. Costa Rica finishes in 7th place of U-19 NORCECA

HAVANA, Cuba, June 29, 2016 – Costa Rica team scored its unique triumph versus Antigua and Barbuda 3-0 (25-20, 25-10, 25-10) and so they finished in the 7th place  of the NORCECA Boys U-19 Championship which will be closed today at the Sports City Coliseum. Costa Rican player, Mariano Salas, was the only one who had double-digits (15) in a match which lasted barely an hour and where the winners led the attack (30-8) and service (9-0); whereas their opponents excelled in block (9-0) and Amoy Lee was the squad best scorer with 9 points.

United States overcome Mexico to defend U-19 crown vs. Cuba

HAVANA, Cuba, June 28, 2016 – United States needed five sets(17-25, 25-18, 25-23, 23-25, 17-15) to surrender Mexico and take back home the second and last ticket to the World Championship, 2017, available in the NORCECA Boys U19 Championship whose match for the title will be played against Cuba. The final match in Tulsa, 2014, when the Americans defeated Cubans will repeat itself, but on this occasion the clash for the title will take place at the Sports City Coliseum. More  Español

HAVANA, Cuba, June 28, 2016 – Dominican team did not have difficulty to sweep Antigua and Barbuda 3-0 (25-11, 25-18, 25-16) to become the rival of Jamaica tomorrow in the game for the fifth place of the NORCECA Boys U-19 Championship, also Qualifying Tournament for the World Championship in 2017. HAVANA, Cuba, June 28, 2016 –Jamaican team defeated Costa Rica 3-0 (25-17, 28-26, 27-25) and will go for the fifth place of the NORCECA Boys U-19 Championship on the closing day scheduled for this Wednesday at the Sports City Coliseum. HAVANA, Cuba, June 27, 2016 – Mexico breezed past Dominican Republic in straight sets (25-11, 25-12, 25-15) and will play United States on Tuesday in the second semi final match of the NORCECA Boys U-19 Championship. HAVANA, Cuba, June 27, 2016 – Nicaragua defeated Jamaica 3-0 (28-26, 25-16, 28-26) and will meet Cuba on Tuesday in the first semi final match of the NORCECA Boys U-19 Championship in the Sports City Coliseum. Despite the Jamaican efforts to block the outside hitters, Jonny Zeledón (19) and Byron Hernández (16) were the match best scorers. HAVANA, Cuba, June 26, 2016 – Cuba advanced on semi finals after stopping the Mexican impetus to win in four sets (22-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-16) and the Pool B of the NORCECA Boys U-19 Volleyball Championship at the legendary Ciudad Deportiva Coliseum. Nicaragua does not give in to Costa Rica

HAVANA, Cuba, June 26, 2016 – Nicaragua had an uphill struggle, but never gave up and prevailed over Costa Rica in five sets (28-26, 25-20, 13-25, 20-25, 15-13) for their second triumph in Pool A at the NORCECA Boys U-19 Championship. The winning team asserted itself as Central American champion at this age category where they also defeated the Costa Ricans who finished third in that previous qualifying phase for this NORCECA tournament prior to World Championship in 2017. United States overpowers Costa Rica to lead Pool A

HAVANA, Cuba, June 25, 2016 – United Sates overpowered Costa Rica 3-0 (25-9, 25-17, 25-16) to continue leading the A Pool of the NORCECA Boys U19 Championship when there is only one preliminary match left against the Dominican Republic. The only player who had double-digit was the opposite hitter Jaylen Jaspar (12) in a match capped with a family photo of the two squads together as an expression of friendship, which relieved the wide-ranging difference in attack (28-13), blocks (8-1) and service (12-0). HAVANA, Cuba, June 25, 2016 – Hosts Cuba breezed past Jamaica 3-0 (25-15, 25-11, 25-23) to remain undefeated in Pool B of the NORCECA Boys U-19 Volleyball Championship at the Ciudad Deportiva Coliseum. The opposite hitter, José Carlos Romero (14) and the outside hitter Christian Rojas (10) led again the attack by Cubans who improved their pool record to 2-0 before Sunday’s match against Mexico to determine. Nicaragua surprises Dominican Republic

HAVANA, Cuba, June 25, 2016 – Nicaragua team entered the court again with joy and fighting spirit to overcome Dominican Republic 3-1 (20-25, 25-13, 25-21, 25-23) for their first victory in A Pool at the NORCECA Boys U-19 Championship. The Central Americans attacked better (53-42) and were also superior in the service (4-1) while their opponents were better in blocking (4-6) with the two sides similars in unforced errors (33-34). HAVANA, Cuba, June 25, 2016 – Mexico  took advantage of the slow pace of Antigua and Barbuda to obtain in an hour their second triumph 3-0 (25-10, 25-19, 25-10) in Pool B of the NORCECA Boys U-19 Championship, a qualifying tournament for the 2017 World Championship. HAVANA, Cuba, June 24, 2016 – The Cuban team made its debut overpowering Antigua and Barbuda in three straight sets (25-8, 25-7, 25-19) in the second match of the B Pool in the NORCECA Boys U-19 Volleyball Championship which takes place in the Sports City Coliseum.  The host team showed better fitness and technical level the reason they are considered, jointly with the USA team, clear favourite squads to go tothe final match as happened in 2014 when they were defeated by United States. Eight NORCECA teams begin quest for two tickets to U19 WCH

HAVANA, Cuba, June 23, 2016 – The coaches of the eight teams taking part in the NORCECA U19 Boys Championship were enthusiastic about the intentions of good performances by their sides, especially when only two tickets are available to the 2017 world championship instead of three as it was in 2014. The world championship will feature 16 teams instead of 20 when NORCECA had four representatives. Now, besides the two teams that qualify in Cuba, a third one will be granted. More  Español
