Santiago and Acevedo of Puerto Rico score two victories
 

GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, April 8, 2011 - Puerto Rico’s Yarleen Santiago and Dariam Acevedo grabbed two victories on the first day of pool play action at the Gatorade Beach Volleyball Tournament in Guatemala, the second stage for the 2011 NORCECA Circuit.

 

Santiago/Acevedo in Pool D, defeated Dominican Republic siblings Gina and Ginette Del Rosario by 2-0 (21-11, 21-18) and then defeated 2-0 (21-12, 21-14) Vanessa Virgen and Polet Cruz of Mexico-2.

 

Americans Grin Grey and Jennifer Snyder of USA-2 also recorded two victories. They prevailed over two Central American duos, first defeating Costa Rica’s Ingrid Morales/Natalia Alfaro 2-0 (21-15, 25-23) in a great battle, following with a 2-0 (21-15, 21-15) effort over Guatemalans Maria Jose Orellana/Anna L. Ramirez, in Pool E.

 

In Pool A, USA-1 Whitney Pavlick and Jenny Krop had no trouble to win againt Marcela Avalos/Dina Romero of El Salvador 2-0 (21-8, 21-5), who earlier had won over Gina Flores/Martha Euceda of Honduras.

 

Cubans Niriam Sinal and Ion Canet, in their debut for the 2011 Circuit, suffered one loss but then recovered with a victory in Pool C. Heather Bansley/Elizabeth Maloney of Canada-1 overcame the Cubans 2-1 ()18-21, 21-15, 16-14. Sinal/Canet won over Valeria Mendoza/Scarlet Cortez of Nicaragua 2-0 (21-4, 21-10).

 

In Pool B, Martha Revuelta with Diana Estrada of Mexico-1 had one victory in their only match of the day against Canadians-2 Jamie Broder and Kristina Valjas by 21-17 and 21-18, who later in the day defeated Elki Philip/Pauline Woodroffe of Trinidad & Tobago 2-0 (21-8, 21-13).
