All set for 2014 World Championships Qualification Tournament  

 

GROS ISLET, St Lucia,  April 26, 2112- All four men's teams , Grenada, St Eustatius, St Vincent and the Grenadines and hosts St Lucia are readying and rearing to go at the NORCECA first round of Group B of the 2014 World Championships Qualification Tournament which opens here at the Beausejour Indoor Facility on Friday, April 27.

 

Coach of the Grenada Raphael Brathwaite said his team is a mix of youth and experience and is looking forward to do well.

 

"We have a good blend of some experienced players and some young players". Brathwaite stated. "Expect us to exhibit a good level of Volleyball, as we have been practicing hard for the last two months for this tournament."

 

The Grenadian coach is confident of advancing to the next phase of the qualifiers while newcomers St Eustatius, is undaunted by the fact it is their first outing at this level.

 

St Vincent and the Grenadines' Coach Brian Burke is equally optimistic of his team's chances. 

 

" We are looking forward to be very competitive as we have a bunch of young and energetic players and once they perform to the best of their abilities, then we expect to do well", Burke advanced. 

 

Coach of St Eustatius, a buoyant Esmond Hook said, "Any time I leave my country, I come out to win." 

 

"At the end of the day though, we expect to learn from this experience", Hook projected.

 

And, host St Lucia is confident of topping the group, as expressed by both team Manager, Kendall Charlery and team Captain Dayne Williams.

 

A bubbly Charlery said: "We are looking for first place and nothing else will do; we are well prepared, we know the competition, all except one."

 

Williams echoed similar sentiments, stating, "We have been drilled thoroughly and we are looking for nothing less than first place and believe we have put in enough in training to achieve that".  

 

The first match serves off at 9 am, with St. Vincent and the Grenadines taking on Grenada and from 10:30 am, host St Lucia engages St Eustatius.

 

The teams return in the evening for another double header. From 6:30 pm, St Eustatius faces Grenada, and from 8 pm, St Lucia plays St Vincent and the Grenadines.

 

The matches in the evening sandwich the formal Opening Ceremony.

 

Following the round robin matches, the first and fourth places meet in the semi finals, likewise the second and third places. The winners of the semi finals go forth to the championship match and the two losers meet in the third and fourth place play off on Sunday April 29.
