GUANACASTE, Costa Rica, April 15, 2016. Playa Tamarindo’s heat
and high level play were ingredients that gave a special flavor
to the beginning of the fourth stop of the NORCECA Beach
Volleyball Circuit.
Canada’s and United States’ men team found some resistance, but
eventually took two wins in the day, dominating their respective
groups.
McLachlin/ Evans, of USA beat Bryan Monge/Roland Masís of Costa
Rica-B, 2-0 double 21-14, and then outscored Tato and Pepe, of
El Salvador, by 2-0 (21-19, 21-11). Both losing teams beat
Guadalupe and will define between them the second place in Group
B on Saturday.
In pool C, Michael Plantinga/ Cameron Wheelan of Canada subdued
with double 21-13 Denis Lopez/ Gerson Contreras of Nicaragua,
and also won over Alejandro Gonzalez/ Marcos Miranda of Costa
Rica by 2-0 (21-13, 21-15).
Meanwhile, Andy Leonardo and Luis Garcia of Guatemala, won
against Gonzalez/ Miranda by 2-0 (23-21, 21-16) and defeated
Lopez/ Contreras by 2-0 (21-17, 21-19). The winners will meet on
Saturday to define the first place in Group C.
In pool A, which has only three teams, Daneil Williams/ Fabien
Whitfield of Trinidad and Tobago beat Wilfredo Vega/Mercuri
Miller of Honduras by 2-0 (21-5, 21-2) and Hector Soto/ Sergio
Figueroa, of Puerto Rico, outscored Vega/Miller by 2-0 (21-9,
24-22). Both winners will meet on Saturday.
The United States aim to have two teams in semifinals and are on
track with Michael Boag/Devon Hatcher who beat Christian Redmann/Felipe
Humana-Paredes, of Canada, by 2-0 (21-19, 21-13) and Richard
Smith/Sebastian Valenciano, of Costa Rica, 2-1 (17-21, 21-17,
15-7), to lead pool D.
