Book about Dominican Achievements launched in Santo Domingo
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, November 23, 2018 – A book
covering the achievements of the female volleyball teams of the
Dominican Republic during the period 1990-2016 was launched on
Thursday in Santo Domingo.
Journalist Jose Caceres Veloz, a columnist of Hoy daily
newspaper, is the author of the book titled “Modern Volleyball
DR- 1990-2016, The Queens of the Caribbean”.
The launching ceremony was attended by Cristobal Marte Hoffiz,
president of NORCECA and of the Female Program of the Dominican
Volleyball Federation, Ramon Garcia, president of the
Federation, Mireya Luis, vicepresident of NORCECA, and Dominican
Hall of Famers Milagros Cabral and Cosiris Rodriguez.
The book contains reports of the most important victories of the
Dominican teams over that period, which includes gold medals at
World Championships, Pan American Games, Pan American Cups,
Central American and Caribbean Games and NORCECA Championships.
The presentation of the book was made by Roosevelt Comarazamy,
director of communication of NORCECA, who commented part of the
contents and recalled some of the highlights of the
competitions.
Marte Hoffiz, explained his beginnings with volleyball inspired
by physical education professor Ricardo Arias and former
national player Mayo Sibilia and how they have lived moments of
joy and also times of setbacks.
He commented how hard it has been for a country of the
conditions of Dominican Republic to stay among the top-ten in
the world rankings for the senior team.
He recalled the start of the careers with the national team of
both Rodriguez and Cabral at a very young age and without
experience.
“At that time, everybody knew the six ever present members of
the team,” he said. “Now we have more than twenty players
capable.”
He considered the bronze medal at the 2009 FIVB Grand Champions
Cup in Fukuoka, Japan as the biggest achievement of the
Dominican Republic’s volleyball.
Caceres Veloz encouraged colleagues who are experts in
volleyball to write about the history of the game in the country
and expressed gratitude to all the persons and institutions who
supported him for the edition of the book.
The members of the Technical Staff of the Dominican Republic
Female Teams as well as several members of the teams at
different levels attended the ceremony. |
