CAZOVA Concludes Successful Congress

ST CROIX, US Virgin Islands, April 10, 2017 – The Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association (CAZOVA) held its biennial Congress on Saturday, April 08, 2017 at the Divi Carina Bay Resort, US Virgin Island (USVI).

The meeting was patronized by the President of NORCECA, Mr. Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, and President of the USVI Olympic Committee, Mr. Angel (Chico) Morales.

Mr. Marte reflected on the development that has taken place in CAZOVA through the investment of NORCECA/FIVB and the important role CAZOVA now plays in NORCECA.

In his welcoming remarks, Mr. Morales highlighted how volleyball helped to shape his own life and, hence, its potential to help children within the CAZOVA jurisdiction to become successful adults.

Having been previously circulated, all reports, to include the audited Financial Statement, were approved without concerns, thereby allowing for the meeting to be used to focus on ways to improve how volleyball is administered in the Zone.

Of note, the Congress democratically identified hosts for all its tournaments up to 2022 which was a major achievement that was commended by President Marte.

The Congress unanimously expressed concerns about the new strategies of the FIVB as it will impact negatively the development process of Categories 1 and 2 National Federations.

Among the views expressed, was the critical situation generated by the FIVB restrictions affecting the development programs in execution since 2010 among CAZOVA National Federations under the supervision of NORCECA.

NORCECA President assured the National Federations of CAZOVA the necessary financial support available within the budget for 2017.

President of CAZOVA, Mr. Mushtaque Mohammed, demonstrated statistically that over the past decade the NFs of CAZOVA have all made admirable progress.

He noted that there was a lot more that can still be achieved and challenged each NF administrative body to produce strategic and development plans that will serve as blueprints for their speedy development and successes in volleyball and beach volleyball.

Mohammed also complemented the delegates for their positive and constructive contribution made in the congress and challenge them to continue in their parthway for development in their respective countries.

The next congeress will be in 2019 and already Curacao has express an interest to host.
