Caguas is 2-0 in Puerto Rican League Quarterfinals

CAGUAS, Puerto Rico, April 16, 2017 –Caguas claimed its second victory in as many outings in the quarterfinals of the Puerto Rican Women’s Volleyball Superior League.

The Criollas overcame Valencianas of Juncos 3-2 (19-25, 25-18, 26-24, 23-25, 15-11) to improve its win-loss record in Pool A to 2-0 while Juncos dropped to 1-1.

Annie Drews and Karina Ocaso scored 20 and 19 points, respectively, to lead five Caguas players with double figures in the scores. Stephanie Niemer had 16 while Shirley Florian and Ana Sofia Jusino finished with 12 and 10.

Ponce recorded a straight-set 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-23) victory over Indias of Mayaguez increasing to a 2-1 record in Pool B while the defeated evened theirs to 1-1.

Haley Eckerman topped Ponce offense with 18 points, followed by Gina Mancuso and Dulce Tellez with 13 and 11, respectively. Kalei Mau had 15 points in the losing cause.

The quarterfinals resume on Monday with Juncos versus Carolina (0-2) and Humacao (0-1) versus Mayaguez.
