Caguas takes 2-0 lead in Puerto Rican Finals

 

   

MAYAGUEZ, Puerto Rico, May 5, 2015 – Caguas defeated Mayaguez 3-1 (25-12, 26-24, 23-25, 25-17) to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven final series of the Puerto Rican Women’s Superior League on Monday.

 

Once again the blocking game of Caguas proved to be the difference in the match held at Palacio de Recreación y Deportes of Mayaguez as the winners held a 14-7 margin in points won at the net.

 

Karina Ocasio topped Caguas with 23 points followed by Jessica Jones with 15 and Lynda Morales and Regan Hood with 11 points apiece in the victory.

 

Kim Willoughby and McCkenzie Adams each had 13 points for Mayaguez, in the loss.

 

In the first match at Hector Sola Bezares of Caguas, the home side totaled 19 blocks to 14 by Mayaguez in the 3-2 (19-25, 25-15, 25-22, 19-25, 15-12) victory.

 

Ocasio led Caguas with 19 while Jones (14), Stephanie Enright (13), Morales (13) and Hood (12) also reached double-digits in the scores.

 

Adams (19), Willoughby (16) and Sarai Alvarez (15) were the best offensive players for Mayaguez.

 

The next match f the series will be played on Wednesday night in Caguas.
