Canada remains undefeated at 6-0 in Group 2 of WL

 

SASKATOON, Canada, June 26, 2016 - Canada continued its winning ways in FIVB World League play, downing Portugal in four sets (24-26, 25-15, 25-23, 25-21) on Sunday.

 
Toon Van Lankvelt topped Canada’s effort with 16 points, followed by Nick Hoag with 11.  Alex Ferreira of Portugal topped all scorers with 21.

 
Canada (6-0) won all three of its home matches this weekend. Saskatoon was the only Canadian tournament stop for the team before the Rio 2016 Olympics.

 

Earlier in the weekend, Canada swept Korea 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-20) and China 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-17)

 

Also in Group 2

 

Netherlands came back from two sets down to beat Cuba 3-2 (23-25, 14-25, 25-23, 25-23, 15-12) and to win second match in Bratislava while Cuba lost all three games in Slovakia.

 

Cuba also lost to Czech Republic in five sets (25-19, 25-21, 24-26, 22-25, 15-11) and to Slovakia 3-1 (25-19, 25-23, 22-25, 25-22).

 

In Group 3

 

Montenegro finished their disappointing weekend with a 3-1 (18-25, 25-17, 25-22, 25-19) victory over Mexico (1-5) in Tunis on Sunday. Mexico also lost to Tunisia 3-1 (22-25, 25-22, 25-17, 15-18) and to Venezuela 3-2 (22-25, 25-18, 25-21, 23-25, 15-10).

 

Qatar completed their debut World League appearance on a high, after shutting out Puerto Rico 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-16) in Group 3 action. Puerto Rico (1-5) also lost to Greece 3-1 (25-17, 25-17, 27-29, 26-24) and to Slovenia 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-12).
