Canada team in Peru for VNL qualifier

LIMA, Peru, June 24, 2009 - Canada is vying for a spot in Volleyball Nations League (women) this week in Lima, Peru (June 26-30) at Manuel Bonilla Coliseum.

The six participating teams (one host and five teams from continental qualification tournaments) will be divided into two pools of three.

The winner of the tournament this week advances directly to the 2020 FIVB VNL, to replace the last-ranked of the challenger teams in this year's competition.

Canada’s group (Pool B) includes Argentina and Chinese Taipei. Pool A consists of Peru, Czech Republic and Croatia. The top two of each pool advance to the semifinals to decide the medal matches.

Canada won its spot after beating Puerto Rico in the recent NORCECA Challenge Cup held in Chateauguay, Quebec.

This is the second year that Peru is hosting the FIVB Volleyball Challenger Cup. Last year, Bulgaria won their place for the FIVB Volleyball Nations League, after winning the 2018 Challenger Cup.

The Canadian roster for the Challenger Cup is the following:

Jessie Niles, Turner, Autumn Bailey, Kiera Van Ryk, Kyla Richey (C), Danielle Smith,
