Chile and Mexico to dispute Gold at Mazara Cup
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, July 2, 2018 - With a
convincing 3-1 victory over the Dominican Republic, the Chilean
national team qualified to compete with Mexico for the gold
medal of the International Volleyball Cup "Horacio -Chichí-
Mazara, which will end on Tuesday at the Gioriver Arias Palace
of the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center.
The Chilean triumph in the semifinal 'B' by 25-20, 25-18, 23-25,
25-19 allows them to face Mexico, who scored a 3-0 win over
Guatemala in the semifinal that opened the card on Monday.
Dusan Bonacic and Tomás Parraguirre each scored 17 points in the
Chilean victory, Matías Parraguirre 11 and Simón Guerra nine.
For the Dominican Republic, Pedro Luis García 19, Wilfrido
Hernández 11, Antonio López 10 and Elvis Contreras six.
For the first time in the series, the coach of the Dominican
team, the Venezuelan José Gutiérrez, had Elvis "Peco" Contreras
with the initial six, along with another novelty, the central
Richi Paulino who accompanied Wilfrido Hernández, but never
played José Cáceres. Elvis did not come out in the third set and
did not return. |
