Colombia overcomes Mexico in five sets

 

CAÑETE, Peru, June 21, 2017 – Colombia recovered from a 0-2 deficit to defeat Mexico in five sets 3-2 (23-25, 18-25, 25-16, 25-20, 15-9) in Pool A of the XVI Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup by Movistar at Lolo Fernández Coliseum on Wednesday.

 

The victory gave Colombia a 2-3 record and fourth place in the pool and relegated Mexico to the sixth place and a match against Chile for the positions 11-12 of the competition.

 

Dayana Segovia, Giselle Perez and Margarita Martinez each recorded 18 points in the victory while Yeisy Soto contributed 10 points. Mexico’s Andrea Rangel was the top scorer of the match with 26 points, followed by Kathya Garcia and Jocelyn Urias who finished with 18 and 13 in the loss.

 

Colombia recorded 14 blocks, including four each by Segovia and Valerin Carabali. The winners committed 20 unforced errors to 30 by the defeated side.
