Cope/Alfaro seeking for the finals at home

 

   

GUANACASTE, Costa Rica, April 16, 2016 - Costa Rica will be looking for its best result in the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour 2016 while advancing to the women’s semifinals in the fourth stop of the circuit, where he will face Cuba, while two United States’ teams will face in the other semifinal.

 

Karen Cope and Natalia Alfaro, of Costa Rica, were fourth in the stop of La Paz, Baja California, Mexico, and now in Playa Tamarindo they defeated compatriots Valeria Valenciano/ Marcela Araya by 2-0 with a double 21-14, in the quarter finals. The opponents of the Central American will be Cubans Yanisleidis Sanchez/ Lidiannis Echeverria who eliminated Brandie Wilkerson/ Julie Gordon of Canada, the champions in La Paz, by 2-0 (21-17, 21-19).

 

Cope/ Alfaro defeated Sanchez/ Echeverria in their group stage by 2-1 (21-14, 10-21, 15-8), a result they hope to repeat in the semifinals to reach their first final of the year.

 

Meanwhile, Kelly Reeves/ Allison McColloch, of USA, second in La Paz, outscored Claudia Rios/ Gloria Santoyo, of Mexico, by 2-0 (21-16, 21-18) in the semifinals and will meet their countrywomen Betsi Flint/ Kelley Larsen, who outscored Rachel Crockel/ Camille Saxton, of Canada, by 2-0 (23-21, 21-18).

 

The losing teams in the quarterfinals will play for the fifth to eighth positions. Valenciano/ Araya versus Rios/Santoyo and Wilkerson/ Gordon against Cockrell/ Saxton.
