Cuban José Romero was chosen as MVP

LIMA, Peru, May 11, 2019 - The Cuban opposite, Jose Romero, the highest scorer of his team in the final against Canada, was selected on Saturday night as the Most Valuable Player of the IV U21 Men's Volleyball Pan American Cup.

Romero who stood out as top scorer of his team in all the games, finished the competition with an accumulated of 68 points, of which 14 were in the duel that gave his team the gold medal.

"I started in volleyball in fourth grade, since I was very young I liked it and thanks to the support of my coaches I was able to start the path that led me to be the athlete that I am today", said Romero who was summoned at age 15 to be part of the selection of your country.

"This recognition motivates me a lot, because the sacrifice we make is great and what we want is to succeed for our country," Romero said, thanking his coach Jesus Cruz and his technical team for the hard work they have been developing in the Cuban team

After winning their first gold medal in the Pan American Cup U21 with five consecutive victories by 3-0, the Cuban team is ready for the U21 World Championship to be held in Bahrain, from July 18 to July 27, 2019.

"In the two months that remain we will continue training to iron out the mistakes we made in this competition, the goal is to arrive in the best possible shape for the World Championship and be on the podium," said Romero, for whom a Cuban athlete is known for "Joy, camaraderie, and the desire to fight for our country."
