Curacao edges Bonaire in thriller

WILLEMSTAD, Curacao, July 9, 2015 - Hosts Curacao roared back to win the last six points after trailing 13-9 in the deciding set to edge Bonaire 21-25, 25-19, 27-25, 18-25, 15-13 in a thriller in the second game of a double header on the opening night of the CAZOVA Youth Girls’ Championships.

The see-saw under-18 contest lasted 136 minutes and had fans on the edge of their seats from the first serve to the last strike.

The captains led from the front as Bonaire’s Angela Jahena was the game’s leading scorer with 24 points and Anais Conradus notched 16 as three players from the home team scored in double figures.

Dangela Maduro and Jewengaly Hart chipped in with 11 and 10 points, respectively, for Curacao.

Curacao led 27-20 in spikes, 8-6 in blocked shots and 20-15 in service winners.

“There is a winner and one who will learn from the game, so there is never a loser. The players gave it their all,’’ said Curacao’s coach Patrico Bridgewater.

“We gave it all we had. I think everybody enjoyed the game and we have to keep going,” said Bonaire’s coach Rudy Anthony.
