Curacao gets the better of Bahamas in seventh spot playoff

COUVA, Trinidad, July 7, 2017 - Three players were in double-figures scoring as Curacao outlasted Bahamas 3-2 (27-29, 25-16, 20-25, 25-22, 16-14) in their seventh place playoff in the 16th Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association (CAZOVA) Men’s Championship at the National Cycling Centre, Balmain, Couva.

Derwin Colina was the main scorer for Curacao in the one hour, 58 minutes contest with 24 points, which included 16 kills, five blocks and three service aces while Marlison Kleinmoedig added 18 points, and Shuruendy Valeriano 17, punctuated with 14 kills and three service aces.

On the opposite side of the net, Rajahl Moxey and Lorenzo Williams each tallied 15 points for Bahamas, and Byron Ferguson, 12 in the loss.

The win was a much deserved one for Curacao after it dominated Bahamas on kills 51-39, blocks 15-11, and service aces, 9-4 and also committed less errors, 38 to 52.

The last placed finish by Bahamas was its lowest finish since a seventh spot placing on home soil in 2006, one spot above US Virgin Islands.
