Daly Santana named MVP in Puerto Rican League

 

   

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, April 20, 2016 – Daly Santana, who has been the sparkplug for Capitalinas de San Juan, was named Most Valuable Player of the 2016 Puerto Rican Women’s Volleyball Superior League.

 

Santana received 18 of the 32 first-place votes good for 113 points followed in a distant second by Andrea Drews of Indias de Mayaguez, the scoring leader of the regular season, who was named in five first-place ballots and got 61 points.

 

Santana, whose name was included in 30 of the 32 ballots submitted by a panel, played in 74 sets for Capitalinas scoring 383 points (341 attacks, 30 blocks and 12 aces). Her average of 5.18 per set was the second highest in the league.

 

The other players receiving first-place votes were Haley Eckerman of Ponce (3/39 points), Tara Muller of Humacao (2/21), Stephanie Enright of Caguas (3/19) and Shirley Ferrer of Catano (2/16).

 

Santana is the fourth native player to win the MVP honors in the past 10 seasons. She joins Sarai Alvarez of Mayaguez in 2007, Yarimar Rosa of Mayaguez in 2012 and Juncos in 2015 and Natalia Valentin of Ponce in 2013.
