Dominicans
outdueled Argentina for the bronze medal
CITY, Guatemala, May 4, 2013. - Dominican Republic outdueled
Argentina by score of 3-1 (25-16, 25-17, 20-25, 25-22) to claim
the Bronze Medal of the second edition of the U-18 Girls Pan
American Cup on Friday.
Dominican Republic and Argentina displayed great skills in which
the blocking of the winners made the difference with advantage
by 15-5. Argentina was better in the serving department by 7-5
in points. Both teams equally made with mistakes, 20 for
Dominicans and 25 for Argentinians.
Brayelin Martinez conducted her team to the victory with 24
points, while Gaila Gonzalez registered 19 points. Elina
Rodriguez and Sol Piccolo with 15 and 13 points respectively
were Argentina’s top scorers.
“I’m exhausted but glad, we dropped a set because we thought the
match was already finished and Argentina took advantage. I’m
satisfied for the medal even if it wasn’t the one we hoped for”
said Brayelin Martinez.
Sol Piccolo began congratulating the winners, “we were worn-out
and Dominicans are hard to defeat”.
Wagner Pacheco, Brazilian coach for Dominican Republic said “I
congratulate Argentina’s coach, theyfought strong and I wish
them well in the World Championship. After losing yesterday’s
match it was difficult to motivate the team and at moments they
made childish mistakes. Brayelin definitely made a splendid job
in the fourth set. I’m happy for the medal and for Dominican
Republic”.
Guillermo Caceres had only good things to say, “in this
age-group motivation is the most important thing to do.
Dominican Republic has lots of potential and a bright future
ahead, for Argentina it’s important to play at this level”. He
finished hoping the best for al America’s representatives in the
World Championship in Thailand. |
