Dominicans roll past Guatemalans

HAVANA, Cuba, March 29, 2017 –In another match without any pressure, the favorite and already-qualified team Dominican Republic stormed past Guatemala 3-0 (25-10, 25-10, 25-12) at the IV Pan American U-18 Girls’ Cup at the Sports City Coliseum.

Their second win in Pool C was led by Liliannis Feliz Sena (13) and Jazmín Guillén (12) while on the opposing team the best scorer was Marie Alvarado with only 4 points.

Alexandre Ceccato, Brazilian coach of Dominican Republic: “The girls were less nervous today and had better block and the defense than yesterday against Uruguay. They also attacked well as we must prepare for a tough match against Mexico tomorrow.

Edgar Calleja, coach of Guatemala: “My team made efforts and achieved to react from 0-16 in the third set which was our best one. They understand well each other and although we have not had as many games as the big teams here we are learning every day.”

Yaneirys Rodriguez, captain of Dominican Republic: “We did not have any pressure and thus we played easier to save the best for the match against the Mexicans tomorrow. That’s why some reserve teammates also entered into the court today.”

Carmen Gómez, captain of Guatemala: “Obviously the Dominicans are superior, but we got to do our playing and we did our utmost. We are happy as it will be a great experience for the Central American Tournament at this category next June.”
