FIVB Development Commission highlights Nucleus Plan as key to success 

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, February 14, 2020 – The FIVB Development Commission praised the success of the Nucleus Plan when it met at the FIVB Headquarters in Lausanne yesterday. 

FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça Fᵒ led the Commission meeting, which reflected on the projects already approved, as well as assessing the criteria for future projects. 

As part of the Nucleus Plan, the FIVB Project Platform is open to all National Federations (NFs) wishing to apply for support in improving the performance of their national teams, and for support with coaching and volleyball equipment. Once an application is successful the NF works in partnership with the FIVB to develop players and teams across the world. 

Since 2017, the FIVB has approved a total of 276 projects from NFs. In 2019 alone, 123 applications were submitted, with 113 accepted, demonstrating the FIVB’s clear commitment to supporting NFs grow the sport in their country and region. 

The FIVB President highlighted the growth of beach volleyball in Oceania as a prime example of how hosting events can be the catalyst for sports growth.  

“Only last month, the Cook Islands staged a historic 1-star FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour event, the first held in Oceania outside of Australia. 

“In line with its high-performance strategic plan, Oceania will bid for and host more events, including another 1-star World Tour event in Guam in March. I believe that this will result in an improvement in the level of beach volleyball national teams and a chance to create beach volleyball role models throughout the region.” 

The Commission also discussed volleyball’s role in working with Olympic Solidarity, the development of Snow Volleyball and the FIVB’s commitment to sustainability.
