FIVB President Expresses Optimism for 2021  

LAUSANNE, February 5, 2021 - FIVB President Dr Ary S Graça F° today opened the first-ever virtual edition of the FIVB World Congress and spoke of his optimism for 2021 because of the FIVB’s strong foundations and professional leadership. 

Addressing the Congress, the FIVB President said: 

“Indeed, 2020 was a tough year. But because of the strong foundation we have built thanks to your tireless efforts over the past few years, as well as the decisions we have taken, we have been able to weather the storm.” 

The President then went on to talk about several key highlights from 2020, including the FIVB’s support of its athletes and National Federations via the FIVB Athletes’ Relief Support fund and Development Projects Platform respectively.  He also discussed how the FIVB adapted to the challenges of 2020, stating: 

“Even without volleyball competitions, millions of fans across the globe could enjoy engaging volleyball content thanks to our innovative digital strategy. This is showcased by our strong following on social media, with more than 8 million followers across all our online platforms.” 

The results of the first-ever FIVB Athletes’ Commission Elections were also highlighted in the President’s speech. 

 “A few days ago, we announced the results of the elections with three female and two male athletes receiving the most votes. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the newly-elected members of the FIVB Athletes’ Commission,” said FIVB President Dr Ary S Graça F°.    

The World Congress is set to continue today with the President’s Report titled “The Future of Volleyball”, a presentation on Volleyball Empowerment, along with presentations and reports from the FIVB legal and finance teams.
