Four Norceca Teams to compete in GU18WCH

SANTA FE and ROSARIO, Argentina - The Norceca Volleyball Confederation will be represented by four teams that begin their participation in the FIVB Girls U18 World Championship.

On Friday, Dominican Republic will match Turkey in Pool D at the Newell’s Old Boys Stadium in Rosario while Cuba, Mexico and the United States are scheduled to play at the National Technological University Stadium in Santa Fe.

Also on Friday the Mexican players begin their preparation match Russia in Pool B while Cuba open its participation in Pool A on Saturday against Germany. Also on Saturday, the United States are scheduled to play against Russia in Pool B.

Some of the coaches shared their thoughts before the beginning of the competition.

Jim Stone, coach of USA: “Hopefully we can move forward and finish on the top four and hopefully we can use the experiences that we gain in the first four matches to help us in the second half of the tournament.”

Alexandre Ceccato (Dominican Republic): "We feel ready for the competition. We come from a good performance in Peru, but we know we have a very tough first round pool, maybe the hardest of all four. We decided to think game by game - We have a very important first match against Turkey and that is our focus at the moment."

Tomas Fernandez, coach of Cuba:“This is a very young team, only two athletes have international experience. We will try to play one match at a time. We are coming from a good preparation we had in Peru after playing the Final Four, where we played against Argentina,Dominican Republic and Peru and we expect a lot from these girls.”

Alfredo Naranjo, coach of México: “Our team has got a good preparation after the time we’ve had in order during this process with a good projection in several parts of the game”.
