GUANACASTE, Costa Rica, April 16, 2016 - Andy Leonardo and Luis
García achieved a historic result for Guatemala as they
succeeded in advancing to the semifinals of the fourth stop of
the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour in Playa Tamarindo.
In the quarterfinals, Leonardo/ Garcia defeated Michael Boag/Devon
Hatcher of United States by 2-1 (21-17, 18-21, 15-12) and will
face Daneil Williams/ Fabien Whitfield, of Trinidad and Tobago,
who edged Bryan Monge/ Ronald Masís of Costa Rica 2-1 (21-18,
18-21, 15-12).
In the other semifinal, Spencer McLachli/ Miles Evans of United
States, who beat Hector Soto/ Sergio Figueroa of Puerto Rico by
2-0 (21-9, 21-12) will play against Michael Plantinga/ Cameron
Wheelan of Canada, who won over Richard Smith/Sebastian
Valenciano of Costa Rica, by 2-0 (21-18, 21-18).
McLachlin/ Evans finished unbeaten in group B as Plantinga/
Wheelan did in the pool C.
Leonardo/ Garcia were second in the C but displayed a great
exhibition in the quarterfinals versus Boag/ Hatcher, who were
unbeaten as Pool D leaders. Leonardo/ García finished seventh in
the first stop in Guatemala City and climbed to sixth in Guaymas,
Sonora, Mexico.
