International Volleyball for Free in Colorado Springs
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado, August 22, 2019 –
Colorado volleyball fans can see an international tournament
for free on Aug. 22-24 when USA Volleyball hosts the NORCECA
Champions Cup at the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training
Center.
Women’s teams from the United States, Canada, Dominican
Republic and Puerto Rico will compete. Men’s teams will be
from the United States, Canada, Cuba and Puerto Rico.
Teams will compete in a round-robin format, with each squad
playing the other three once. The U.S. Women will play their
matches at 5 p.m. MT each day, while the U.S. Men will
follow at 7 p.m.
The competition opens with a men’s match between Cuba and
Canada at 13:00 (local time) followed by a women’s contest
between Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico at 15:00.
The winner qualifies for next January’s NORCECA Olympic
Continental qualifier. If a U.S. team wins the tournament,
then the second-place team will qualify because both the
U.S. women’s and men’s teams have already qualified for the
Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Admission is open to the public. All 12 matches of the
NORCECA Champions Cup will be held in Sports Center 1 on the
U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center complex.
Matt Werle,
head men’s volleyball coach at Grand Canyon University, will
coach the U.S. Men’s squad, while former player Tayyiba
Haneef will coach the Women’s team.
