Iran beats Canada, continues atop standings

URMIA, Iran, June 14, 2019 – Host Iran beat Canada in straight sets 3-0 (25-15, 26-24, 25-16) to open the actions of the third round of the 2019 FIVB Men’s Volleyball Nations League on Friday.

Amir Ghafour and Purya Fayazi scored 16 and 11 points, respectively, to lead the home side. Stephen Maar led Canada with 13 points while Nicholas Hoag finished with 8 in the loss.

Iran leads the standings with a 6-1 win-loss record and 19 points, while Canada dropped to 4-3.

The Iranians led in attacks 39-33 and dominated in service winners 7-1. The winners committed 17 errors to 25 by the Canadians and held a slight advantage of 5-4 in blocks.

Iran next plays against Poland while Canada faces Russia.
