Karina Ocasio: MVP of the Week in Puerto Rico
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, February 6, 2019 – Karina Ocasio, who was
instrumental in the three victories and nine points attained by
Criollas de Caguas, was named Most Valuable Player for the
second week of the season of the Puerto Rican Volleyball
Superior League.
Ocasio was also one of the member of the All-Star squad as one
of the outside hitters. The captain of the four-time champions
Caguas, is third in scoring with 75 points (had 48 in the 3
matches of the week), third in attacks with 61 and fourth in
blocks with 11.
Other players of Caguas in the All-Star of the Week are the
middle blocker Diana Reyes who is fifth in blocks with 10 added
to 45 points in four matches played, and opposite attacker
Oneida González who has 53 points good for the sixth place.
The other two players in the positions of outside hitter and
middle blocker are Paulina Prieto and Ivonessa García of
Valencianas de Juncos.
Prieto is the top scorer with 100 points in 17 sets for an
average of 5.88, is second in attacks with 86 and fourth in
direct services with 8 aces. García had nine blocks for the week
and her average of 1.50 tops the league.
The setter of the week once again was the rookie of Indias de
Mayaguez Kathia Sánchez who has 127 assists in 18 sets for a
7.06 average.
Valeria Leon of Llaneras de Toa Baja completed the ideal team as
libero. The defensive specialist had a week of 42 defenses with
29 receptions moving up to the second place among the players of
her position with a 10.50 effectiveness. |
