Teams of USA, CAN and PUR dominate the quarterfinals

SEVEN MILES BEACH, Grand Cayman, March 26, 2011 – USA, Canada and Puerto Rico booked quarterfinals tickets for their two teams at the Men’s Cayman Islands Beach Volleyball Tournament, the first stage of the 2011 NORCECA Circuit.

William Strickland and Lucas Wisniakowski of USA-1 entered the final-eight round following a 21-18, 21-14 victory over Jamaica’s Mark Lewis and Dellan Brown while Jon Mesko and Paul Baxter made their way through with a 21-11, 21-14 win against Dany Lopez and Gerald Umaña of Nicaragua.

Martin Reader and Chaim Schalk of Canada-2 battled for a 21-12, 23-21 win over Esteban Escobar and Gilberto Villegas of Costa Rica, and Josh Binstock and Richard Van Huizen of Canada-1 defeated Honduras’ Luis Baide and Wilfredo Vega by score of 21-9, 21-13.

Orlando Irizarry and Amaury Velasco of Puerto Rico-1 defeated Shawn Seabrookes and St. Claire Hodge of St. Kitts & Nevis 21-8, 21-14 and Roberto Rodriguez and Christopher Underwood of Puerto Rico-2 recorded a 21-17, 21-14 victory over Fabien Whitfield and Daneil Williams of Trinidad 6 Tobago.

Also advancing to the quarterfinals were Mexico’s Ulises and Lombardo Ontiveros and Dominican Republic’s Yewddy Perez and German Recio.

The Sunday’s morning quarterfinals round features: Mexico v United States-1, Canada-1 v United States-2, Puerto Rico-1 v Puerto Rico-2, and Dominican Republic v Canada-2.
