Santiago -Yantin of Puerto Rico and Americans Snyder-Hughes advance

 

SEVEN MILES BEACH, Grand Cayman, March 23, 2012. –Yarleen Santiago and Yamileska Yantin of Puerto Rico and Jennifer Snyder and Heather Hughes of USA-1 won their respective matches of the first day at Cayman Islands, the first stage of the 2012 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit.

 

Santiago/Yantin of Puerto Rico defeated Cherine Richards and Cheryl Daley of JAM-2 2-0 (21-13, 21-6) while Snyder/Hughes of USA-1 downed Sharon Payne and Rosemarie Simon of Antigua 2-0 (21-16, 21-6).

 

Other winners advancing with only one victory were the two Mexican duos; Martha Revuelta and Vanessa Virgen of MEX-1 defeated Michelle Moriarty and Traci Weamer of USA-2 2-1 (21-14, 13-21, 26-24), in one exciting match while the MEX-2 team of  Bibiana Candelas and Mayra Garcia prevailed in three sets (21-14, 15-21, 15-12) against Kacie MacTavish and Julie Rodrigue CAN-1.

 

Jamiee Broder and Victoria Altomare of CAN-2 won against Susana Alvarado and Anna Lourdes Ramirez of GUA 2-0 (24-22, 22-20). Also winners were Diana Romero and Marcela Ávalos of El Salvador who prevailed over Nardarake Hutchinson and Tsahai Williams JAM-1 by 2-0 (21-18, 22-20) and Ayana Dyette and Elki Phillip of TRI who defeated  2-0 (21-17, 22-20) Jennifer Bily and Cristin Alexander of Cayman Islands.

 

The biggest surprise was the elimination of MacTavish/ Rodrigue of CAN-1 to Guatemala’s Alvarado/Ramirez by 2-1 (24-22, 10-21, 16-14).  Moriaty/Weamer of USA-2, Dominicans Peguero/Agramonte and locals Bily/Alexander remain in competition after defeating Hutchinson/ Williams JAM-1, Payne/Simon ANT and Richards/Delay JAM-2 respectively.
