Marte Hoffiz announces qualifying process to Youth Pan Am Games

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, May 5, 2020 – NORCECA President Cristobal Marte Hoffiz confirmed the qualification process to be used for the Youth Pan American Games scheduled in June of next year in the cities of Cali and Valle del Cauca, Colombia.

Marte Hoffiz informed that for indoor volleyball the U23 Pan American Cup is the tournament whose final rankings will be utilized.

“The U23 Pan American Cup will be the tournament taken into consideration for the Games,” Marte Hoffiz said. “Four spots will be granted to NORCECA and the other four to South America, including the host Colombia.”

The U23 Pan American Cups are scheduled on October (women) and November (men) of 2020 in Puerto Rico and Cuba, respectively.

Marte Hoffiz also informed that for the beach volleyball tournament of the Youth Pan American Games the continental ranking of NORCECA will define the participants.

“For the beach competition, we will be using the NORCECA rankings since up to now we don’t have an event in the U23 category.”

Sixteen pairs per gender will compete in the Games with eight pairs for each confederation, including the host.

According to the 2019 NORCECA rankings the top-8 men’s teams are United States, Nicaragua, Canada, México, Guatemala, Cuba, Trinidad & Tobago and Puerto Rico. The top-8 women teams are United States, Canada, Cuba, Nicaragua, México, Guatemala, El Salvador and Costa Rica.

Marte Hoffiz made it clear that all the NORCECA events are subject to the current situation of the pandemic coronavirus COVID-19 that have forced the cancellation or postponement of most of the events throughout the world.
