Dominicans Perez and Recio win over Canadians

CHIAPAS, Mexico, May 14, 2011 – Dominicans Yewddy Perez and German Recio advanced to the quarterfinals of the Chiapas Beach Volleyball Tournament, the fourth leg of the 2011 NORCECA Circuit.

In the round of 16, Perez and Recio defeated Francois-Guy Allaire and William Sidgwick of Canada-2 by score of 21-19, 21-19.

Earlier in the day, the Dominican combo won Pool C by scoring a 21-18, 21-14 victory against Simon Fecteau-Boutin and Cameron Wheelan of Canada-1.

Fecteau-Botin and Wheelan also made it to the quarterfinals following a long battle with Nicaragua’s Dany Lopez and Gerald Umaña by score of 18-21, 21-13, 15-9.

The men’s quarterfinals will be played on Sunday morning with the semifinals and finals in both genders scheduled for the afternoon session.

Final pool positions: Pool A: MEX-1 (2-0), GUA (1-1), TRI (0-2). Pool B: PUR (2-0), CRC (1-1), NCA (0-2). Pool C: DOM (2-1), CAN-1 (2-1), CAY (1-2), MEX-2 (2-1). Pool D: CUB (3-0), USA (2-1), HON (1-2), CAN-2 (0-3). Winners of pools A and B advance directly to quarterfinals.
