Honduras ends with perfect score

 

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, May 20, 2012.- Honduras won over Turks & Caicos 3-0 (25-10, 25-14, 25-17) and ends the NORCECA First Round 2014 Men´s World Championship Qualification Tournament Group G with perfect 3-0 win-loss record.

 

Turks & Caicos had no chance against Honduras who continued with their solid blocks and attacks shown during the three day competition. All players of the winning team saw action during the match that lasted 58 minutes.

 

For Honduras, Luis Salgado with 10 points and Evan Torres with 7, were the best scorers. James Cuero of Turks & Caicos led with 19 points.

 

“I have no words to describe how we all feel; it’s amazing to be called the best team and champions of the tournament. The gold medal was our goal,” Luis Membreño, captain of Honduras, expressed.

 

Verwyn Jervis, Turks & Caicos captain, said: “I believe we did a great job against the best team. We have improved since the beginning and we’ll continue to practice at home.”

 

Coach Rony Martinez of Honduras said: “We have much respect for all our rivals and this wasn’t the difference. Our young bench players need to get more experience and as this was our last match, they had the opportunity. We dedicate this championship to Honduras, especially to our families.”

 

“I want to congratulate Honduras, they did exceptionally well. Our guys were afraid of their blocking but I’m proud of them,” CJ Edross, Turks & Caicos coach, said.
