Mexico gets victory over Unites States
MEXICALI, Mexico, July 6, 2013 - After losing two in a row
against Argentina and Egypt, hosts Mexico recovered to edge past
United States in a match that lasted 2 hours and 6 minutes.
Mexico won in five sets (25-20, 26-28, 20-25, 25-21, 15-13).
Enrique Ugalde converted 24 points, including four aces. Alan
Martinez finished with 13 and Ivan Molano with 11.
For the American side, Colby Harriman had his second match in a
row as top scorer for his team with a total of 18 points and
Christopher Nugent scored 17. Captain Christian Blough had 14
and Kennet Pia totaled 12.
Argentina advanced to a match for the fifth position winning a
five-set battle with a stubborn Cuba 27-25, 25-19, 14-25, 22-25,
15-11.
Nicolas Lazo had a match-high 24 points to lead the scoring
sheets of the Argentinean squad while Bruno Lima and Brian
Melgarejo contributed 17 and 15 points.
Cuba’s Luis Jimeno scored 23 and Felix Chapman and Ricardo Calvo
added 13 and 11 respectively. Calvo, the setter of Cuba,
recorded seven blocks and two aces.
Cuba held the advantages in the blocking (15-8) and aces (7-3)
categories while Argentina were tops in the attacks (66-55). |
