Mexico to make debut at MWCH in Poland

GDANSK, Poland, August 31, 2014.- Mexico will make its debut at the FIVB Men’s World Championship against Bulgaria in Pool C.

Prior to their departure to Poland, the Mexicans closed their training camp in Qatar with a victory over Algeria in five sets (25-21, 23-25, 25-12,19-25, 15-13).

“We want to play a great role at the World Championship, we know the conditions, but we came here with the best wish to do the right things”, said coach Sergio Hernandez.

Hernandez is assisted by the legendary Ivan Contreras, former captain of Mexico, who played the 2010 edition in Italy. “For me being in the World Championship represents to give them a little experience, calm and preparation as matches get closer and to try to share and get involved with a few things I’ve learned during my professional career”, said Contreras about his new role as assistant.

“We’ve come here with the best intentions, to see if maybe we can give a little surprise at the World Championship that is going to be a very difficult competition,” he added.

After their debut against Bulgaria, the Mexican squad will match China on September 3rd and Rusia on the 5th, while on the 6th will play against Canada in a Norceca teams battle. After these matches will close against Egypt on September 7th against Egypt.

The team coached by Hernandez must win at least two matches to advance to the next phase, that would be against Pool B teams. They will play their first round at Ergo Arena in Gdansk, Poland.
