SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, March 2, 2021 – Two
promising Puerto Rican beach volleyball players
are about to realize their dreams of playing in
the United States’ National Collegiate Athletic
Association (NCAA).
Allanis Navas and María Gonzalez have been
recruited by Grand Canyon University and Texas
Christian University, respectively.
Navas and Gonzalez represented Puerto Rico at
the Youth Olympic Games where they finished in
fifth place and at the 2018 Central American and
Caribbean Games in Barranquilla when they ended
in the fourth position.
“I am elated and very proud of the work I have
done during all these years”, said Navas, who
will be part of the fourth team of her school.
“It has been really tough to compete for my spot
in the second team”, Gonzalez said. “In Puerto
Rico we normally have four players competing,
but here we have 20 and started with 22.”
“TCU already has contributed to my development”,
Gonzalez added. “I am not the same player that
arrived last semester.”
Navas’ goal is helping her team to reach the
post season with her defense and complete the
unfinished job they left last year when the
tournament was cancelled due to the COVID-19. |
