Nicole Fawcett bangs 34 points to lead Ponce victory

 

PONCE, Puerto Rico, April 10, 2014 – Nicole Fawcett had 34 points and Airial Salvo added 18 as Ponce defeated Cataño 3-1 (28-30, 25-14, 25-23, 25-18) in the first match of Pool A in the Puerto Rican Volleyball Women’s Superior League quarterfinals on Wednesday.

 

Gina Mambru and Shannon Wingate had 17 and 13, respectively, for Cataño.

 

In a match of Pool B also on Wednesday, Humacao evened its win-loss record at 1-1 after a 3-1 (25-22, 25-18, 18-25, 25-19) victory over Mayaguez.

 

Kim Willoughby and Jekaterina Stepanova had 23 and 21 points, respectively, for Humacao. For the defeated side, Amanda Vasquez had 19 while Sarai Alvarez and Shonda Cole each tallied 13 points.

 

On Tuesday, Caguas beat Humacao sin straight sets (25-23, 27-25, 25-22) with Falyn Fonoimoana leading the scoring charts with 15 points followed by Stephanie Enright with 14. Stephanie Hooker played in the second set and had 6 points, all in attacks.

 

Kim Willoughby and Shirley Ferrer had 15 and 14 points, respectively, for the losers.
