Garcia and Candelas win third gold medal

 

PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico, October 2, 2011 – The Mexican duo of Mayra Garcia and Bibiana Candelas won their third gold medal of the year in NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit after a 17-21, 21-13, 16-14 victory over Heather Hughes and Emily Day of United States in 60 minutes at Pan American Stadium, the site of the Pan American Games in Guadalajara 2011.

 

After winning the two previous Mexican stages in Manzanillo and Rosarito, the fans of Puerto Vallarta cheered for the Mexican pair who finished in a fifth place in the Beach Volleyabll World Tour event held in Canada.

 

In the first semifinal Candelas and García won a battle against Costa Rica’s Ingrid Morales and Natalia Alfaro (21-14, 21-23, 15-11) while Hughes-Day edged Canada’s Bansley-Maloney (25-23, 25-23).

 

Morales and Alfaro claimed the bronze medal by default against Canada’s Bansley-Maloney (21-0, 21-0) due to an injury.

 

Final positions: 1.- MEX 1, 2.- USA, 3.- CRC, 4.- CAN, 5.- GUA, 6.- MEX3, 7.-PUR2, 8.- PUR 1, 9.- TRI, 10.- MEX2, 11.- IVS.
