Orellana & Revuelta reach 2nd straight semifinals


KRALENDIJK, Bonaire, September 27, 2019- The Mexican pair of Zaira Orellana and Martha Revuelta reached their second straight semifinal at the seventh leg of the 2019 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour Circuit.


This after Orellana and Revuelta defeated Nicaraguans Valeria Mendoza and Lolette Rodriguez 2-0 (21-12, 21-13) in the first quarterfinal.


In the semifinals on Saturday morning, the Mexicans will face Canada-A players, Alina Dormann and Victoria Cowley after they ousted El Salvadorans Kathya Vasquez and Fernanda Vargas 2-0 (21-17, 21-19).


And in the other semifinal, USA-B Aurora Davis and Alexandra Wheeler plays Guatemalans Estefanie Bethancourt and Natalia Giron.


USA-B dominated their USA-A countrywomen Melissa Fuchs and Lindsay Fuller 2-0 (21-9, 21-13), while Bethancourt and Girongot the better of Trinidad and Tobago duo Malika Davidson and Rheeza Grant 2-0 (21-13, 21-14) for the third straight meeting in two tournaments, back-to-back.


Earlier in the morning session, top seeded Orellana and Revuelta won Pool A with a 3’0 record after beating Curacao´s Angjeny Tolentino and Leandra Savonije 2-0 (21-16, 24-22).


Bethancourt and Giron were also perfect in Pool B with a 3-0 win loss record thanks to their 2-0 (21-7, 21-15) victory against Arubans Jackie Toussaint and Mali Rafini while in Pool C, Davis and Wheeler steamrolled Cowley and Durmann in their pool decider 2-0 (21-10, 21-11).


Trinidad and Tobago and Nicaragua qualified to the quarterfinals as the first and second best third placed finishers due to higher points won to a better point-ratio than Curacao at 1.1782 and 1.1287 respectively. Curacao had a 0.8963 point-ratio.
