Peru strikes gold at home

 

   

LIMA, Peru, May 24, 2015 – Peru pulled a fantastic victory in five sets over Dominican Republic 3-2 (25-20, 25-21, 24-26, 21-25, 16-14) in the gold medal match of the U20 Women’s Volleyball Copa Latina at Eduardo Dibos Coliseum of Lima on Sunday night.

 

In the match for the bronze medal, Brazil overpowered Cuba in straight sets 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-21).

 

Maguilaura Frias and Angela Leyva led Peru with 18 and 16 points, respectively, Andrea Urrutua and Coraima Gomez each contributed 14 points in the victory while Luciana Del Valle chipped in with 12.

 

Natalia Martinez had a match-high 28 points for the Dominican Republic followed by Massiel Matos with 18 and Lisbeth Rosario with 13.

 

Karina De Souza and Ana Beatriz Franklin topped Brazil with 12 points apiece while Cuba’s Diaris Perez finished with 17 in the losing effort.

 

The four teams are qualified to the FIVB U20 Women’s World Championship to be held in four cities of Puerto Rico next September.
