Puerto Rico subdues Costa Rica

PACHUCA, México, 12 de junio 2014 -  Puerto Rico breezed past Costa Rica in straight sets (25-15, 25-11, 25-19) in a match of Pool B of the XIII Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup taking place at Multisport Carlos Martinez Balmori in Pachuca.

It was the first win for the Puerto Ricans who had Aurea Cruz as their best scorer with 13 points followed by Lynda Morales (10) also in double figures. For the Central Americans the only one who reached double digits in scoring was Angela Willis (10) while Paola Ramírez added 9 in the loss.

Jose Mieles, Coach of Puerto Rico: “With each day in the tournament we will improve certain aspects, today we made fewer errors. We know about the quality of the opponents and that the coach is always pushing them to do a good job.”

Sheila Ocasio, Captain of Puerto Rico: “We planned to reduce the errors of yesterday and were many and worked on our teamwork. We always respect the Costa Ricans and never underestimated them.”

The Argentinean Horacio Bastit, Coach of Costa Rica: “I congratulate the opponent for the plan executed, and with the individual quality of their players could compensate the absence of three regular players; we also have one important player down, Verania Willis, it is difficult but I think the girls played well.”

Angela Willis, Captain of the Central Americans: “This was a match we planned to play with fewer errors and we did it in certain aspects. We need to continue working. Puerto Rico is a great rival for us.”
