Reeves and McColloch grab second gold of the season

GUANACASTE, Costa Rica, April 17, 2016 - Allison McColloch and Kelly Reeves of United States-B claimed their second NORCECA Gold at the fourth stage of the 2016 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour in Playa Tamarindo, Costa Rica, defeating Cubans Yanisleidis Sánchez/Lidiannis Echeverría 2-0 (21-14, 21-18).

Reeves/McColloch had won their first gold in Guatemala City beating Canada Julie Gordon/Brandie Wilkerson, and faced few troubles overcoming the young Cuban couple, who were making their debut in the 2016 circuit.

"I am extremely happy, we had an excellent tournament,” Reeves said. “We worked great as a team with Allison. It was a very tough tournament, the other couples played well and strong. The heat, the sun and the wind were also factors in the tournament.”

Kelly said: "The key was to work on the passing and setting, all were affected by the wind, but we learned to control the ball and made good passes, that helped us better to finish the moves.”

For the third place, Betsi Flint/Kelley Larsen, the United States beat Karen Cope and Natalia Alfaro, of Costa Rica, with double 21-16. Cope/Alfaro were also fourth in the stop of La Paz, Baja California, Mexico.

To reach the final, Reeves/McColloch outscored their compatriots Flint/Larsen 2-0 (21-17, 21-14) while the Cuban couple Sanchez/ Echeverria won in a disputed match (21-19, 21-23, 15-10) over Cope / Alfaro local who had won their previous contest in the group stage.
