Miramontes-Virgen make gold for the third consecutive year at Norceca Gran Festival

 

MANZANILLO, Colima. September 11, 2011.- Mexicans Aldo Miramontes and Juan Virgen won gold for the third consecutive year at Norceca Gran Festival Manzanillo 2011, after their victory over Puerto Ricans Roberto Rodriguez and Christopher Underwood with a 21-16/21-18 score, in a game in which they were supported by a full Gran Festival Stadium.

 

Mexico also conquered gold medal in women`s competition, after Mayra Garcia and Bibiana Candelas won their match against Puerto Ricans Yarleen Santiago and Darian Acevedo, by 23-21/21-17.

 

Previous to the finals for the gold at Norceca Gran Festival Manzanillo 2011, Guatemala´s Garrido-Blanco team obtained bronze in men´s, defeating Dominican Republic (Recio-Perez) in the longest game of the tournament, with sets 19-21/21-18/16-14. Vanessa Virgen and Martha Revuelta, Mexico´s second team competitors earned bronze in women´s, after defeating Costa Rica´s Morales-Alfaro, in a 21-14/21-16 game match.

 

The activities of this Sunday had started at Gran Festival Stadium with the women´s semifinals. In the first match, Puerto Rico`s Santiago-Acevedo squad defeated the Costa Ricans Morales-Alfaro in two sets, 21-14/21-12. Afterword, Mexico`s elite team (Garcia-Candelas) had become the finalist against Puerto Rico, after winning over Mexico 2 (Virgen-Revuelta), with a 21-19/19-21/15-5 score.

 

In the men´s semifinals, Puerto Rico´s Rodriguez-Underwood couple had also turned into the first finalist of this tournament, after defeating Dominican Republic`s Recio-Perez in a pair of sets, 21-14/21-17. The second men´s finalist was Mexico 1, with their elite squad Aldo Miramontes-Juan Virgen, that at the moment was looking for a third title in Manzanillo after defeating Guatemala´s Garrido-Blanco couple in two sets, 21-18/21-12.
